Cheap Child Labor

Wellington is such a funny little guy. When I’m cleaning the house, he wants to be everywhere I am. Up at the washer throwing clothes in, getting IN the dryer, standing on the door to the dishwasher while I’m loading the washer, and when I vacuum, he wants to vacuum.

He’s always been fascinated by the vacuum, we even got him a toy one that lit up for Christmas last year (here’s the video of it). But now that he’s older and stronger he wants to use the real thing. And who am I to stop him from having fun….

…let’s just hope he keeps it up!

He gets pretty ticked at me if I don’t let him have a turn with it. He actually does a decent job. I love it, cause I can do other things while he’s vacuuming.

If you need some help around your house, Wellington doesn’t charge very much, and is available after his afternoon nap.

Baby Computer Genius

Mark and I spend a lot of time on computers, and as a result Wellington is very familiar with one.

When Wellington was a newborn I could sit at the computer and nurse him at the same time. Now that he’s older, if I’m at the computer, he HAS to be up at my lap, “helping” me type or using the mouse. He loves to pretend to type, and knows how to turn off and on the moniter.

He’s gotten pretty good at using the scroll feature on the mouse, he uses his one little finger to scroll.

And last night while Mark was using the laptop, he noticed Wellington using the mouse pad with his one little finger.

Here is a quick video of our Baby Computer Genius using the mouse.

Hey kid, whatcha doin’ in our cupboards?

Now that Wellington is more mobile, we’ve had to step up our child proofing as he’s been getting into everything. We have tried a few different child safety locks on various types of drawers and cabinets, but the little jerk genius keeps figuring them out. We passed by these magnetic Tot Locks at Lowes the other day, and thought they looked pretty good (but also pretty expensive), so we bought one set to try out. It’s a little lock and latch that you attach to your cabinet or drawer, and it has a “key” that is basically a strong magnet that you pass over the drawer to unlock it. You just keep the key on the fridge so you can go grab it if needed (out of reach from babies of course). I procrastinated installing them for a long time, but figured I’d give it a shot yesterday.

Even though I couldn’t install them myself, I would still recommend these to anyone (most people are handier than myself and will probably have no problem installing them). They work great, and they come with a little red tab that you can switch to keep the drawer temporarily unlocked (until you flip the red switch back), so we have them installed on all the drawers, but can select which ones to keep locked (very nice). It seems like most of the child safety locks open just enough to allow the child to pinch their fingers in the drawer, but these don’t let the child open them enough for that.

As mentioned above, we found these at Lowes, but you can find them at many places (Amazon has them along with some more reviews. Seems like most of the negative reviews are all about the difficulty of installation, but once they are installed, everyone agrees, they are great).

Woot, Woot, Woot Off!

Woot.com is having another woot off today. In case you missed our earlier post about woot-off’s, it’s basically they are taking all of the stuff that they didn’t sell out of in the past, and marking it down even further until it does sell out. Usually you have to wait until midnight for a new deal, but on Woot Off’s, a new deal is posted after the previous deal sells out, so check back often as they will have lots of good deals through out the day. And by often, means don’t leave your computer…they’ve already had some great deals…I’ll be up late tonight I’m sure…clicking the refresh button. There will be a status bar (just like the one above) that will tell you how much an item is left (doesn’t give an exact number, but as the stock diminishes the bar goes down).

They’ve already had ipods, zunes, speakers, computers, remote control cars and helicopters…lots and lots of great stuff. I stayed up late last night, hitting refresh a million times, and I probably wont get much done today until its over.

Good luck wooting off!

Way Back Wednesday

This one has actually made the 20 worst lyrics list on spinner.com! And yup, I chose it for today’s Way Back Wednesday. This gem of a song is by Sade (pronounced “shah-day”) an English group that had on and off success in the 80’s 90’s and just in the last few years, but they are better known for their 80’s stuff. The song Smooth Operator came out in 1984, the same year my sister Barbara was born (oh, cute).

The video for “Smooth Operator”, directed by Julian Temple (better known for his videos for The Sex Pistols), was nominated for two MTV Video Music Awards for “Best Female Video” and “Best New Artist” in 1985. Really? Now that’s sad. If you can believe it they actually made a full 8 minute version of the video, that tells the “whole story”.

The song has been covered three or four times, but by nobody worth mentioning, although one was for a heavy metal band, which I’m sure made an interesting version.

You’re probably wondering why in the world why I would pick this song, well, simply I used to remember listening to it on the radio, and it brings back some great 80ish memories.

I’m embarrassed to even put a title on this.

This post is about 4 months too late, but I’m hoping that Banna will forgive me for not posting our thank you video sooner.

I think our cousin Banna gave up on us a long time ago, I’m sure she’s written us off by now. To her we don’t even exist. We’re lazy, procrastinating jerks! Well mostly me. I was supposed to make a post of what she sent us for Christmas. Last year Mark’s family decided to do a Christmas exchange and Banna got us.

I thought it would be so fun to get video of us opening it, so instead of getting pictures I got the video, and it took me way too long to get it in Pinnacle and up on youtube. It wasn’t that it was long to do just that I kept putting it off. But I finally did it last night, and so here it is, our thank you video for our Christmas exchange present.

Thanks again Banna, Scott and kids, it was a really fun gift and Wellsy loved everything, actually you can really tell he loves those letters cause almost all of them have a bite mark in it. He also really loves the squid and often takes it out of the tub to play with it.

Wellington’s New Suit

We had a great Easter yesterday. We got up early so that we could go to church with Mark’s sister, Heidi. Heidi had asked if I could take some photos of her family after church, so we thought we’ll just go to their ward so we can take some right after. Plus its just fun to go to church with them.

Their ward building is the one on 2nd East and 1st South. Its a fun old brick building built in the 30’s, with large white coloums and stairs in the front. I’m not sure of the address, but its the one right across from Logan High School.

I was really excited to dress up Wellington in his new suit and get some pictures of him as well. I had bought the suit at Sam’s Club a few weeks ago when they brought out their Easter dresses. I had never seen them sell little suits before so I was really excited.

I knew that it was going to be too big on him (I bought it a little big, so that he could wear it longer) but I couldn’t help myself. He NEEDED to wear it for Easter! He looked so handsome in his three piece suit. He wore black shiny church shoes to church, but by the end I changed him into his Airwalks because the shiny church shoes we’re actually two sizes too small for him. What kind of a mother does that? But having him wear his Airwalks turned out to be pretty cute.

We got a family shot as well and some of Welly with his Daddy. But I’ll just post these for now. Later that day, we had a lovely Easter dinner and Easter egg hunt at Heidi’s. I’ll have to post those pictures next. I’m just away from my computer at the moment and only have these pictures of Wellington uploaded.

Hank’s thought’s, Mel’s thoughts.

Hmmm…what to write about? Does anyone remember The Larry Sanders Show? It was short lived, but a super funny tv series in the early 90’s (that we recommend! Warning: it does have swears in it-sinners!).

To give you a little background on the show…it was a behind the scenes look at a late night talk show, where Gerry Shandling plays, Larry Sanders, the talk show host and Jeffrey Tambor plays Hank, his “side kick” who is always trying to steal the spot light, or at least tries. (As a side note, Jeffrey Tambor is a genius actor!)

I’m thinking of this one episode in particular where Hank’s secretary tells him she just needs “Hanks thoughts” for his Fan newsletter before it can be sent out, but instead of being profound thoughts, he just starts spouting off whatever he is thinking, “I’m hungry, I don’t like cheese, If I had my druthers, there would be no more world hunger.”

Well that was a really long explanation to tell you, I think that’s what I’ll write about today, so here are “Mel’s thoughts…” oh, and I hope you check out that show, it’s pretty funny stuff.

“I’m so bugged by the mice outside my house, Chocolate Slim Fast is gross, I’m glad Wellington is asleep, that was nice of Barbara to watch him today, Mmmm…those lunchables were good, I’m glad Mark got a fridge at work, my hair feels so greasy today, I wonder if we’re going out to eat tonight, I’m so tired, I’m bored, I should go eat a mini doughnut, those mini doughnuts are so waxy and delicious, I’m glad Mark likes to eat the same kind of food as I do, I’m glad I didn’t marry someone skinny, Mark has manly hands, I’m glad I got work done with early today, I can get up early if I have something to do, sleeping in is the best, I love being outside, I love being so close to the mountains, I hope we go camping this summer, Wellington will love camping, I love eating campfire hot dogs, I need to clean the upstairs bathroom, its so gross, I hope Barbara didn’t see it today, I wish my glasses didn’t break, that bugs!,I hate it when Gary uses the bathroom when it’s so messy, I wish I had a police scanner, I wonder what the sirens are for, I hope no one stole my wallet that would stink I hope its just lost in the house but I don’t know where else to look, we need to hook up our wireless camera outside so I can see if there is any suspicious activity outside, we should really make it to church this week and get Easter pictures, I hope its nice on Sunday, I can’t forget to get some Easter Candy and some kind of present for Wellington this year, I wish Mark was home from work now…..”

Okay that’s enough of that.

Poor kid, poor skinny kid.

Wellington has been so sick lately. I feel so bad for the little guy. He was sick for three or four days, better for a week, then sick again.

It must be something going around. The first time he was sick, he was throwing up, had exploding diapers and a fever. This time its just throwing up.

Wellsy Bear has lost a lot of weight, when I was giving him a tubby the other day, I could see all of his ribs and his little baby spine.

He is getting better and keeping stuff down though. And I have plans on fattening him up again, when his sensitve stomach can handle it.

Even though he hasn’t been feeling good this week, he’s still been in a pretty good mood. He just wants to play and play. I had a hard time trying to keep him laying still so he would keep down what I had just fed him.

It’s so unfun to have a sick baby. I don’t wish it on anyone.

Way Back Wednesday

Every Wednesday, starting today I will feature a music video of a song from “Way Back”. That might mean anywhere from the 1940’s to the 1990’s. If you need even more video fun, go to The Endless Ambush we’re Troy features a “IT IS FRIDAY . . . . . WE RAWK!” video every Friday.

I think it drives Mark crazy when I just post a video without any explanation because at his work they can’t view videos, so he only sees a blank post. So Mark, here is some text.

You’ll best know this song from the film Top Gun (oh, Tom Cruise how I USED to like you). The song was released in 1986 (I was a whole 5 years old) by Berlin a US band. Unfortunately the song was covered by Jessica Simpson in 2004.

The song has been used for many commercials and advertising for; Ford Motor Company, GE Transportation Systems, and Daewoo Espero to name a few. It’s also been in The King of Queens and in Borat the Movie.

Whenever I hear this song, of course I think of Top Gun, but it’s also a good love song, a cheesy, girly, lovey dovey song that I’m sure Mark would turn if it came on the radio. But here it is anyway, your first Way Back Wednesday Video!
